15-17 year old Mike Tyson in the late 19th century

Having watched some of Tyson's amateur fights and having watched some film of fighters from the late 19th century, early 20th century, I must say, even as an amateur, Tyson looked so much more advanced than many of those guys.

In fact, especially with those small, horse hair gloves, I think a 15-17 year old Tyson would look quite destructive against those relatively crude heavyweights. I even think it'd be a good chance he'd be the champion. How does anyone else see Tyson at that age doing in the heavyweight division of that time? Keep in mind, Tyson was around 200 pounds at 15-17 years old.

Also keep in mind that at 16, Tyson was sparring with fighters like Carl Williams and Frank Bruno, both of whom, at the very least, were as good as many of the fighters of the late 1800s, early 1900s.

    Interesting thread.
I don't think a 15-17 year old would be mentally mature enough
He might knock some guys out with sheer speed and power but there is something to be said about the experience( not just in the ring but in life) of a grown man.
The top fighters back then had gone through alot of **** to get to where they were this isn't adult prime Mike. This is the 15 year old mike who cried before amateur fights and needed pep talks so he wouldn't run away back home before a tournament. Not sure how he does when he looks a true battle tested pro(regardless of how primitive) in the eyes.
I feel he would underperform big time.

Of course the closer you get in age and toughness to 20-25 year old champ Mike the better he does

Of course the youngest ever world champion, Wilfred Benitez, turned pro at 15 and was world champion at 17. Fighters like Walcott and Conn turned pro at 16. Patterson was 17 when he turned pro and was the Olympic middle weight champion at that same age. Ali was 18 when he turned pro and when he was the Olympic light heavyweight champion. And I know 18 is officially "legal", but in the real world, there's not much difference between a 17 and 18 year old, in fact, the 2 are virtually indistinguishable. Unless you're talking specifically about Tyson.

jeez he'd be swinging from a tree, no chance of getting fights. COuntry was too evil to allow him to break thru with his swagger.
