alright guys, boxed for a few years (never competitively), and was just thinking about buying a punch bag. I'm living in china so there arent a great amount of our style of boxing gyms around as u can imagine. so i'm going to buy a bag and because i dislike regular gyms and the weights workouts etc, i was wondering what strength benefits i will get from using a punch bag on it's own. Like toning muscles, building strength etc.

    Any advice appreciated!

    :D:thumbsup

"Toning" is bull****. You won't build strength from punching a heavy bag.

A beginner will, up to a certain plateau. Then you're just maintaining strength, not increasing.

You can develop power on the bag not strength

The bag itself will just 'tell you' when you throw punches correctly or not. What you can develop with it depends on your boxing technique and the kind of work you do (explosiveness, stamina, speed, etc). However your body will be more prepared to 'react to impact' (strength in some muscles and joints, flexibility and go back to the guard after a combination).

You will increase your power, but it will be because of coordination of your entire body, balance, use of your weight, sense of distance, accuracy and boxing skills in general (helped by the sound of the punches).

I prefer wall sits than a punching bag to increase power.

    1. Endurance

    2. Technical "feedback" proofs you're punching right.

    3. Conditions you for hitting something solid. Also, if you have a hard fill bag, you'll probably get pretty good at wrapping your hands.

    4. Eye-hand coordination if you have a target on your bag

*if you use a double-end bag you can have a bag that sort of punches you back.:boxx
