As the title says, what are some good free boxing channels featured for example on youtube that have produced results? The only ones I've been watching as of now are JT Van V and and Expertboxing. Anybody have any experience with these channels or can recommend other ones? I mean, the channels I mentioned are by no means bad but just want to get some insight on what you guys think.
Yeah JT Van V has some good stuff but there's only so far a boxing channel can take you....you getting in the gym as well? What sort of thing are you trying to get from the channels? There's other boxing analyst channels as well such as guys like Wilson Kayden who do lengthy film studies of different fighters....worth a look at least.
I've looked at most and there's a guy called fran sands who fronts 'my boxing coach' who is all I will watch to online now. If you want perfect 'text book' technique then he's your man.
I don't advise internet boxing websites because different teachers teach different styles and systems of boxing. You already go to a gym. If you aren't happy there with what you are being taught then it's time to go somewhere else after you bring it to your coaches attention.
I think you can create your own style regardless who your coach is . A good coach will notice what your strengths are and nurture what you're good at. I think it's important to get the fundamentals drilled into you and then you can express yourself once you're more confident. And the guy fran sands I mentioned I would highly recommend
Someone who has been training for only a month does not have the experience to create their own style. They are still trying to master the fundamentals.
Thanks for the replies everyone! I will into "my boxing coach" thanks! And Mr.DagoWop, you are absolutely right about not being able to create my own style as of yet. As you can read from my other thread, I have been going to a gym for a little over a month and have encountered some issues there. And although you are also right that different people teach different things especially online, I do want to get at least the fundamentals down and work off that. Until I can resolve the gym/trainer issue at least. And to be honest, even before I went to the gym, I always watched the video tutorials online to get even an idea of the basics of boxing so I'm not completely ignorant. Of course, having a trainer teach you is always going to be the best way, but won't always be the most accessible way...
If your trainer isn't teaching you the fundamentals then you should leave the gym. I can understand not spending a lot of 1 on 1 time with you if you aren't competing but if he hasn't so much as taught you the fundamentals then he isn't even a trainer as far as I'm concerned. Sh*t, if I knew that on your other thread then that would have been my first advice. But yeah, you can learn fundamentals like how to throw each punch, footwork, and very basic defense online. Anything more complex then that you need to go see a coach. Also, I wouldn't train on your own for more than a week or two if you plan on competing. It's easy to develop bad habits without a trained eye to critique you. My coach used to make all of us (amateur and pro) line up along the wall where he would shout out punches and combinations as well as monitor our technique the entire time. That was his biggest thing, technique, technique, technique! Man, I kinda miss that gym. I might go back there and see if I can train myself mostly. That would be great. Sorry for the long tangent. Good luck.
He never said once in the other thread that he wasn't taught the fundamentals. You're a damn liar, quit ruining threads with your moronic side arguments.
"Just a little background on myself, I started going to a boxing gym a little over a month ago and I gotta say, I love every second of it. I always give it 110% and always try to learn new things and give it my all. The problem is though, that although I love working out and hitting the heavy bag and sparring, the gym owner/trainer, doesn't really teach me anything or at least isn't willing to. Maybe I'm overthinking it and it may be the same everywhere but...it has become pretty apparent that the owner has his favorites... Like today, there were 4 people including me training in the gym. And usually he'll do mitts/drills with everyone. No problem, everyone has a turn, whatever.. But after the 3 people went ahead and did their thing, he just finished and went back to his desk and walked right past me. I wouldn't think much of it except, he's done this more than once specifically to me and I really...don't know what to do. I know I'm a beginner and all and granted, most of the people there have there at least a year but still.. I've seen him more than once train/do mitts with beginners but only with me, nope. Only the first day I joined is when he really trained me..." Your a disgrace and thick as sheet. You farked this guy around because you don't farkin read. You have no excuse, it's there bold as brass - log off ****wit.
Exactly. He never said his trainer isn't teaching him the fundamentals. When I started at a gym I considered myself a beginner but I already knew the fundamentals. If you weren't so busy being an ignorant ******* then you would see (In the post you quoted) that he said "I love working out and hitting the heavy bag and sparring" Tell me, how can someone who doesn't know the fundamentals spar with fighters who have been training for over a year? Check mate dumbass. Also, what the hell does "farkin" mean? You sound like a middle schooler whose Mom doesn't let him cuss lol
"it gets so damn disheartening and discouraging from not getting a turn on the mitts... to not being shown how to do your hand wraps for the first time and having to ask other fighters to help you... to not knowing if you have good form or not hitting the heavy bag while everyone is watching the new TV screen he installed..." You are the worst poster on the advice forum no doubt. He repeatedly states he is a beginner, first time boxing gym (shouldn't even be sparring at that point). Guys been there a month, ignored by the trainer and is sparring. What other sport do you join, don't get taught the game by the coach and then get thrown into live action? Check mate you fool! Cannot even figure out farkin' and filters - your reading comprehension is a farkin' joke. No *******.
The funny part is you ACTUALLY think you're fooling people. He didn't post that until 11:40 am TODAY! Aka whenever I was making my posts in that thread that hadn't been said. "Guys been there a month, ignored by the trainer and is sparring. What other sport do you join, don't get taught the game by the coach and then get thrown into live action? Check mate you fool!" That's strawman. I was never arguing any of this at any point. Check mate you fool! Dumbass...
"As the title suggest, has anyone ever experienced this? Should I move to a different gym or just make the best of it? Just a little background on myself, I started going to a boxing gym a little over a month ago and I gotta say, I love every second of it. I always give it 110% and always try to learn new things and give it my all. Only the first day I joined is when he really trained me... The only good thing about this gym is that it has all the equipment needed to become a great boxer and the rest of the people are extremely nice to me and teach me things. (although I have to ask them to do mitts/sparring but they always say yes ) But what do you guys think? Has this ever happened to you? This gym is really close to my house and cheap. The environment isn't so bad and the people there are nice. Just the trainer is, and I hate to curse, a bit of a d*ck to me. Any help would be appreciative." English mutha****a, do you speak it! You prove again and again you don't read, all the warning signs and concerns from the OP are there from the very first post if you read. Everyone else read and figured it out but you are the odd man out and continue to show what a useless contributor you are in the training forum. Your not helping anybody - log off you useless carnt.
