Shavers. Tyson is a much better puncher tho and has so many advantages. Speed, stamina, angles, combinations etc. Don't get me wrong, Tyson has fantastic power in each hand but Shaver's, well he's Shaver's.
Tyson. More speed, more explosiveness, more brute strength. Had a ton of one punch knockouts despite idiots who persist in calling him an exclusively combination puncher for some reason. Could knock people out with glancing blows or without even winding up properly. His punches broke bones, scrambled brains and paralysed fighters' legs. Shavers didn't do anything remotely as impressive, though I expect to be inundated with quotes that tell me he could have crushed mountains with his power, etc. Could have but didn't.
If Shavers had Tyson's accuracy then he would have dispatched everybody easily before people would crack his chin and would be considered one of the best fighters ever.
It,s very close though.....i voted for Tyson because he was the only one to ko Spinks and Holmes.....and don,t forget the Botha fight
At no point did I say that he was exclusively a combination puncher, just that he tended to work best in combination.:huh
Tough call. We barely have any of Shavers knockouts on film. We have what, 10 tops? He scored 68. Based on what we do have on film, Tyson has scored better knockouts, with better punches. Tyson's KO of Johnson is Tysons best punch, and I think Shavers uppercut on Norton is his best punch we have on film. Tyson's KO was a stronger punch. The thing is though, Shavers didn't set up his punch on Norton nearly as cleanly as Tyson did on Johnson. Tyson's punch on Johnsons is about the cleanest punch, with the cleanest set up you could ever ask for. He sets both feet down, crouches, and springs out with the arc going perfectly with the overhand right. It's that really hard to land punch you dream of landing. We never got to see Shavers hit someone like that, and frankly we don't even know if he ever had. But, I can tell that the power Shavers is able to put into that uppercut on Norton, despite not being set up as clean, and yet coming very close to the power of Tysons best punch, shows me that Shavers was the stronger puncher. And yet, based on what film we have, Tyson has landed the best punches we've seen between the two. It would be an nasty sight to see what Shavers did to some of the boxers he fought climbing the ladder early on.
