Good read From the outside, Golden Glory headquarters looks neither golden nor glorious. http://www.fightersonlymag.com/content/news/15490-inside-golden-glory-part-one
There's a gym on Newtonstraat, Den Haag, that is ten minutes away from where I live. One of my work colleagues' father is a trainer there, I'm going down there on Tuesday. http://www.haagsedirecte.nl/
Thanks for the advice. Does anyone know if there are any boxing specific gyms that would be worth travelling too?
Its all kickboxing in the Netherlands im afraid. I tried to find a good boxing gym in Amsterdam and couldnt find a single one. I ended up training at Gracie Ju-Jitsu instead...different to say the least. I eventually moved to a small village called Driehuis with my girlfriend and in the nearby town of Ijmuiden (very small place) I found two boxing gyms. Countdown boxing, and tinca tincas boxing gym. Even tinca tincas had alot of kickboxing going on. there were alot of Irish travelers training around there a few years ago, and some of them were really really good. Brought the whole standard of the gym up a few notches. Not your standard traveler bare-knuckle fighter types, but really well trained and conditoned amatuer boxers. Really great lads aswell. the two best of the bunch were about 23 & 25 and they had not fought in a few years because they had turned their attention to raising and providing for their young familys. Having spent alot of time around pro's and Am's in many different countires i can tell you these boys were top class. Just really makes you think, how much wasted talent is out there because its so hard to make a living through boxing these days. Despite my location saying Amsterdam (too lazy to change) I have moved to Denmark now, but I really miss my time back there. I dont know if these gyms will be suitable for you anymore...and if you come form the UK maybe the standard wont be up to your expectations for specific boxing training. You thought about trying Germany?
Eric van den Heuvel's boxing school in Eindhoven "The Golden Gloves". Eric was a good amateur fighter himself and a nice, quite big boxing school. http://www.goldengloves.nl/index.php
You might wanna go here: http://www.boksenfrisia.nl/Home.html The guy in the black t-shirt still trains there, Rudi Koopmans, one of the most succesfull dutch pro fighters, 5 years in a row pro light-heavyweight champion of Europe.
This place is in Apeldoorn, near where my mum lives. Talking to a couple of the younger guys over there they know of it but they've never been; boxing really isn't popular over there compared to, say, Muay Thai seeing as there are so many Indonesians in the Netherlands. But you could contact them and give it a whirl. http://www.boksclub-abcc.nl/en-us/startpagina.aspx (in Dutch, obv)
