Its possible that a thread may already have been posted on this subject, but I'd like to discuss it.

As we already know, the heavyweight division has been in a rather poor state for some time now. New talent however may be on the rise. On January 26th, two prospescts named Alexander Povetkin and Eddie Chambers will meet as part of a title elimination tournament. Chambers is 25 years old, and undefeated 30-0, with recent wins over Calvin Brock, Dominick Guinn and, Derrick Rossy. Povetkin is 28 years old, is unbeaten 14-0, and has a few wins over Larry Donald and Chris Byrd.

This should be a very good fight. I have to give experience to Chambers, but who knows how tested he really is. The winner of this match, may very conceivably be a threat to one or all the current belt holders, but only time will tell for sure.

    Thoughts?

No discussion necessary, everybody knows Povetkin will win easily.

This won't be much of a factor. Chambers has more pro experience, but Povetkin has tons of amatuer experience including a gold medal at Athens.

Nothing Chambers does really impresses me even though he's a philly guy.

It's an easy pick, Povetkin UD/TKO.

BTW props to eddie for stepping it up and taking a fight in Europe.

    No NOT EVERYONE:nono

Count me amongst the DIE HARD Chambers fans no matter how small or large that number might be:D

I do have a small concern about who the judges will be, however i believe you Povetkin fans are in for a suprise.

Chambers has speed, defense, strength, and accuracy, as long as he's busier? Povetkin has his work cut out for him. Seems people either havent seen much of him, dont like a defensive style, just dont like small HW's, that people hold against Chambers. Funny part to me is Povetkins not that much different stylistically and weighs what 13-15lbs more??:D

    Rather.

But I'm cheering for Chambers because he's from Philly.

Chambers throws some very fast punches, but I think Povetkin's pressure and aggression will be too much for Chambers.

A lot of people seem to think that this is a no brainer for Povetkin, but I'm not so sure. Alexander has the legacy of a gold medal and has looked very good thus far, but still needs to be tested in my opinion. A 40 year old larry Donald who hadn't fought in 2 years, along with a 37 year old Chris byrd who hasn't done much since 2005 except lose to Klitschko doesn't tell us much. I'm guessing there are journeyman who could have beaten those fighters at this stage of their careers. Chambers is a fresh 25 years old, and has been staying very active contrary to most of Povetkin's latest opponents. His wins over Brock, Guinn and Rossie are likely better than anything Povetkin has ever done. Alexander is 28 years of age, and only has 14 fights. He doesn't have time to screw around. If he's going to make an impact, he really needs to win this fight. Chambers is just the man who could put a cap on his success. He's young, fast, skilled, durable and experienced. Rarely do we see all of the above qualities in one fighter these days.

I think it should be interesting.

I just watched Povetkin's fight with Chris Byrd. He looked very mediocre taking on a shot fighter who was at the end of his career. In fact, the youtube footage of this fight didn't make it look as thought the stoppage was all that warranted. Apparently Byrd's corner threw in the towel or something, but it sure as hell wasn't anything special that Povetkin did.

If fast Eddie brings his A-game, it might not be so easy. He is a lot more dangerous than you think. I'm hoping that fast Eddie will use the same strategy against Povetkin as he used against Brock. That is clearly wrong and will only make things easy for Povetkin. A nice knockout will generate some interest in the heavyweight division. Nobody wants to see another boring chess match in the ring.

Povetkin came from a fighting family and has had a wide range of experience. His style is unlikely to improve all that much in future. And if he wins he has to face Klitschko.
