I'm fairly comfortable with my fitness when I'm sparring and doing pad work but the heavy bag just murders me.

I can spar at a good pace for 6-8 rounds but 2x3mins on the heavy bag and ready to die.

    Anyone else have this? Why?!

I want to spend time on the bag for when my trainer isn't about but its game over after 5 minutes!

Really? I'm the complete opposite. I find that i can move around the bags throwing combinations quite easily but when it comes to getting in the ring I get knackered just throwing jabs and right hands. You might be trying to go full out and use full force with every punch on the bags as you know it won't move unlike someone in the ring.

If you can go 6/8 rounds in sparring then you should be able to up the intensity as that's at least double what you'll be doing in competion.

maybe you are throwing a lot more on the bag compared to when youre sparring and moving around and punching

you're not sparring hard enough or are sparring inferior boxers.

  5. 6-8 X THREE minute rounds makes that very unusual. It would seem you're not being pushed hard enough in sparring. :think

If your sparring properly and your not fit then one round should be enough to start getting the burn.

The other way with me, I kick the bag's ass, my sparring partner kicks mine.

when i got a new trainer this happened to me

on the bag it is no excuses 5 HARD rounds, every punch must be thrown HARD with perfect technique. the bag is not allowed to swing into me, i am not allowed to step back, only sidestep inbetween combos. for the last 30 secs it is non stop punching on the inside - everything hard and thrown from correct stance, hands up, turning into the punches, turning the punches over. my trainer laughs when he see's my face after he tells me to go on the bag. i hate it. it is painful, tiring and hard work. all through the 5 rounds he is correcting me and often holding the bag in place or throwing punches for me to slip. it really is hell, lol.

Yea, bag work can definitely feel like hell sometimes depending on what you're working on. But at least it doesn't punch back.
