I was under the impression that if you measure from arm to arm across your chest, that gave you your height.

So how do they measure the reach?

Everyone seems to have a different definition of reach. That insane 80+" figure HBO gave for PW was his wingspan (hand to hand with arms outstretched, like they do with Olympic swimmers). Arm length, which some others call 'reach,' is from the armpit to hand. There's a few more measurements that gets lumped in with those, but I don't remember them offhand and I may have gotten it wrong on the ones I listed - officials make it a lot more complicated than it should be.

when you read the tale of the tape and it says paul williams 82 or mayweather 72 thats wingspan from finger tip to finger tip across the chest and its centimeters.

but when they say williams is 25 thats measuring from armpit to the fist and its counted in inches

LOL. A two-year old has a broader wingspan than 82 cm...
