may sound like a stupid question to some people, but i am wondering how reach is measured, because i always thought it was the length of the arm, yet that means Wlad's arm would be 81 inches which is taller than what he is!

Raise your arms to form a cross shape with your body. The reach is measured from finger tips to finger tips.

I like to look at the arm length (arm pit to the end of the fist) measurements rather then reach personally. It gives a better indication of who has the "reach" advantage in a fight in my opinion.

Thats how HBO have done it recently, but its not usually done like that - wingspan, fingertip to fingertip is the usual measurement.

Yeah its's measured fingertip to fingertip. Can give a very misleading impression in some cases, i.e. the Robin Reid-Joe Calzaghe fight. Reid was listed as having a longer reach due to his broad shoulders. However, it was blatantly obvious that Calzaghe had the advantage in this area, he had longer arms and was able to land before Reid could get in range.

From the arm pit to the finger tip or you just ask Jenna Jameson how long it is

Exactly: the upcoming Pavlik/Hopkins fight is a perfect example. Both men are listed with 75" of reach, but BHop is way bigger through the chest and shoulders, so I'm guessing Kelly has the longer arms.

Calzaghe-Lacey & Moseley-Forrest were other examples of that.

I've noticed its very inaccurate and changes. I've seen HBO list Wlad's arm length from 24.5 inches all the way to 27.5 inches. Does it fluctuate? no, its just not very accurately done. They also do wing span measurements which I've also seen fluctuate. You're almost as well off just looking at a fighter and sizing up his reach.

The correct technique to measure reach is from "arm pit to knuckle"
