Mike himself claimed last year on a podcast that some of his fights were fixed, that the referee was in on it but the opponent wasn’t. He doesn’t mention any specific fights except to then say the Buster Douglas fight was fixed in Buster’s favor (apparently referring to the long count). Of course the Seldon fight looked fishy, as in a dive — not like the referee had anything to do with it but maybe Bruce was ‘incentivized’ to find a soft spot? And of course there are some fights where Mike could have been DQ’d — I think he got like six warnings in the first few rounds of the second Ruddock fight without any deductions? Something like that. And of course he tried to break Botha’s arm and someone else’s, he often threw forearms and elbows (he even lanced a forearm shiv to the face of Michael Spinks without warning). So is Mike right? I mean, he should know. If so, which fights do you suspect were already in the bag before the bell? How far back does it go? https://www.marca.com/en/boxing/2023/10/12/652846ae46163feba78b45c3.html
I think Mills Lane did not DQ him after he first bit Holyfield? It was not until he went for the second chomp
I don’t know if he & Seldon were involved in a fix or not, but I know neither were legitimately knocked out. People still defend the Etienne KO. Staggering.
Timed out exactly the same as Mike’s count, didn’t it? Problem was, Buster got up. He even slammed his fist on the canvas and waited to get the full time so he could have beaten it anyway. Mike always has excuse: “I lost my virginity in Tokyo.” “It’s spinal.” “Evander butted me.” “I was old and didn’t care.” Guy was undefeated with five asterisks.
I suspect that some of his earlier prospect fights against stiffs who knew they were there just get beaten probably dropped
Never heard of the counts being the same, I may be wrong on that. And I believe every Tyson defeat was real except Holyfield who blatantly cheated multiple times. Also the asterisks joke was funny.
I dunno. Etienne you'd think him being ko'd but still taking the mouthpiece out is suspect, but he's actually done that (took his mouthpiece out) in a number of fights when he's gotten clocked. And Bruce Seldon and the belly flops, I've seen him sprawl out like that in a few fights as well. So maybe they're both just professional, "when it's hot in the kitchen, overdo it to get out the ring" floppers. Fixed as in Tyson could've been dq'd in a few fights though? Absolutely.
Go watch the fights. He broke just about every rule (except kicking or biting) against Ruddock. He wrenched Botha’s arm and tried to break it. Don’t believe me? Let’s ask Mike … This content is protected
I'm a Tyson fan, but as Saintpat said, Tyson received the same count as Buster so no excuse. Buster was simply better that night. I don't believe the Etienne KO was fake, his leg twisted badly when he fell, maybe he could have gotten up but assessed that it was pointless.
