What happens if they rematch 14 months later instead of 4.5 years? Is Taylor too broken down by their first fight, or would he be able to out box him to the finish this time?

It's unfortunate that this match didn't happen during this time period. The Taylor that got Chavez again in 1994 was a shell.

Something was wrong with Taylor after the first fight. Not just being brokenhearted, I mean physiologically. His legs were never the same after the first Chavez fight, so there's no way he survives a second fight to the final bell no matter when it happens.

Personally I think taylor looked good in beating Aaron "Superman" Davis in january of that year. So I think taylor would have beaten chavez by decision.

Taylor should have Tony Robbins or someone to help him get his mind right.

Taylor looked good a year later in defeating Aaron Davis for a WW title belt. It wasn't until after Norris that he really became "shot". Still, the beating took something from him and even with the fight presumably being at welterweight (which I believe was a hangup for the rematch, Taylor's camp wanted it at 147 and Chavez's at 140), Chavez would still get to him I think and break him down.

Taylor was too brawl happy and would get hit too much. Even in the rematch in 1994, Taylor went to war in round 6 and paid the price. If the heartbreaking defeat of the first fight wasn't going to teach him to box more cautiously, he was never going to learn. Besides, if he's more cautious, it takes away one of his biggest strengths, his workrate. He was winning the first fight largely due to a crazy workrate.

Taylor starts off well then slowly gets broken down and stopped in 10.

Just watched it again, Taylor was just too good for his own good. I think had the fight happened in 91 it would have been a far more competitive fight than was the case in 94.

aylor suffered a broken eye socket, broken ribs, badly busted up face, had a lot of blood pumped from his stomach, was ****ing blood for weeks and was in hospital for almost 2 weeks following the fight. Taylor didn't get robbed he got destroyed deal with it.

Your totally deluded Taylor would be in an even worse state today then he is if they fought again straight away because Chavez would have picked up where he left off.

I am not of the school that Taylor was finished after Chavez I. However his style would lead towards a similar outcome even if the result was different? And I am not sure it would have been although I would have been cheering for him like crazy.

He would once again dazzle us early and then absorb a ton of punishment as he would try and prove his true warrior spirit.

He could win and I wished it would have happened for the sake of his legacy and boxing history....but it is probably good for him that it never happened at this stage...he maybe should have gotten out of the game prior to the Norris fight

One of the stranger facts about Taylor was that even with all the physical gifts he had, he got hit cleanly far to much for a fighter of his physical abilities and skill level. Before the Chavez fight I thought he got hit to much. I don't know if it was because of his aggressiveness, or just defensive lapses he to me at least seemed to get hit far too much. That turned out to be his undoing against Chavez. After the punishment he received in the 1st Chavez fight he was never the same. If they fought earlier, than the 4yrs it took to make the 2nd fight. I see the same results happening. Got to remember Chavez would also be fresher. And he would have a better understanding of neutralizing Taylor's speed advantages . I see a similar result to the Pryor vs Arguello fights were Arguello received a worse beating in the 2nd fight, without the myth of the the "magic bottle".

Chavez got hit too much too - he was just more durable - almost insanely durable
