Looking at power purely how do you rate Tommy Morrison? Was he at a Tyson level power wise? less, more? What tier are we looking at?
He struggled to knock out Joe Hipp and shot Carl Williams. He wasn't that powerful. What is more, he was massively on the sauce, so who knows what his real power level was. I will say, though, it came out years later that the meth and other drugs took away from his power as his career progressed, so who the hell knows?
He had great power-which is distinct from how effec tive he was against elite operators. Best "Toughman" to emerge. BUT it is only fair to say yes who knows what his power would be absent PEDs.
From what I have seen I would say his power level was plenty high enough, just below the level of George Foreman, so second group? Lack of power was definitely not among his major problems.
His left hook at least was way up there. Probably at least on par with Tyson's. Of course, were his right hook, right cross, and right uppercut as powerful as Tyson's? Likely not.
Power in his left hook was a 9, but his durability was like a 3 or 4. The definition of a glass cannon.
about like Norton, where you can't say it's not elite level in and of itself, but because other attributes weren't as elite it comes off as lower tier, I would say on a punch per punch average Bowe and Lewis probably had a bit more power, it seemed that Morrison really had to try hard to get power into his shots deeper into the fight and it wasn't as natural of a thing for him as say Tyson, in other words he would never have as natural and flawless of a knockout like Tyson on Botha as far as early round brawling/one punch/puncher's chance power 9/10, in the overall grand scheme 7/10
I heard many rumors that his chin wasn't really that bad, unless he trained on parties and the powder which he couldn't let go of.
He had alot of heart which made up for his weak chin at times, and he was able to mount some comebacks like vs Carl Williams when he was down a few times.
He broke his hand and jaw in the Hipp fight and yet knocked him down twice anyways. Don't see how that fight makes him look bad. Pinklon Thomas said Morrison hit him harder than any other important which includes a prime Tyson. He visibly hurt Ruddock more and stopped him earlier than Tyson did as well. Say what you want about his skills or career but Morrison had pretty crazy raw power with his hook.
