This would be a good one. That lovely gliding Martinez movement against Canelo's quickness and power. How do you see this one panning out?
Oh god. Canelo easily. I am saying this being a person from spain. Sergio was born in argentina but he is basically a boxer made in spain.. He has his home here, he trained here and he sparred here. The problem with sergio was that he had his oportunity very late ,when he was young was facing class c fighters, he was not ready to face margarito when he did and of course he lost, he looked great against pavlik and paul williams he had his moment in history but he was not even close to the level of Saul Álvarez. I am not sure even if he would have been able to beat cotto when he was in good shape i have my doubts
Yeah, sexy Serg is my pick. He has a vague resemblance to Lara, in that he's a slick southpaw who'll move around the ring, but Sergio will be hitting harder and out-working Canelo at the same time. Whereas Canelo doesn't have the stamina to replicate a Margarito/Williams type performance. Isn't this better suited to general?
Assuming this is at MW and the Sergio of 2010 vs Canelo of 2017... (and fair judges !)... Sergio by UD. Too slick for Canelo. I think Martinez would have outpointed GGG of 2017 as well.
It's taken me about 45 mins to post this. I wanted to reacquaint myself with the timeline of Sergio's record. I was transfixed by the piercing gaze and perfect bone structure adorning his profile on the 'Rec. I'm going with the Ginger one. Sergio had a very awkward and unique style but wasnt that defensively tight if you ask me. Guys like Williams and Pavlik got to him a quite easily at times but neither had the defensive skills of Canelo to deflect what Martinez threw back. Only a strong last quarter from Canelo will seperate them.
Hmm?,, at his best Martinez beats him in a 7-5 fight. Sergio was slick,,plus I don't really like Canelo
I am glad seeing sergio gets appreciated on this forum but honestly i think that canelo could even stop him. They are not at the same level
I don't really like Martinez's low hands against Alvarez's speed, pressure and power. Then again Sergio's movement and angles may give Alvarez issues.
Canelo would beat him, maybe stop him. Martinez didn't want it with a skilled counterpuncher/body puncher. Martinez had a lot of flaws in his fundamentals and some durability issues. Canelo would exploit that. Martinez never beat anyone on Canelo's level. Canelo has won at Martinez's level and higher
