Off the top of the head:

Panama: Roberto Duran, Panama Al Brown, Eusebio Pedroza, Ismael Laguna, Ernesto Marcel, Hilario Zapata, Luis Ibarra, etc.

Colombia: Antonio Cervantes, Miguel Lora, Rodrigo Valdez, Fidel Bassa, Prudencio Cardona, etc.

By the way, that video was terrible.

    thanks for posting that!

Duran is a legend its gonna be impossible for another Panamanian to repeat what he did.

Happy Lora was the ****. Amazing fighter to watch. I was sure Kid Pambele and Rocky Valdez were gonna pop up in the video. They are among the elite Colombia has had in boxing.

Cervantes was at the beginning of the vid, but unfortunately only pictured, no fight footage. Quite old in the photo, too.

But yeah, Happy Lora, for about a 3-year span in his prime, was one of the most masterful (and colorful) defensive/counter-punching technicians I've ever seen. Never seen a slicker fighter.

Its messed up how Cervantes ended up post retirement. In and out of rehab for drugs.

Happy Lora was on TV several times when he retired and managed his money better than Cervantes.

He has a lot of good fights; I like the Locche rematch. Great resume on him.

And they say we just hit hard :bart

You should check out his shut-out win over Esteban De Jesus if you haven't seen it.

They just don't know, man. Don't know nothin' about Happy Lora.

Seeing as it's fitting for this thread, I present to you one of the all time great Panama vs Colombia chess matches, Hilario Zapata (the tall, rangy Panamanian southpaw slickster extraordinaire) vs Fidel Bassa (the smooth Colombian boxer-puncher):

The rest is on Youtube. The first fight is up as well, but the quality makes it unwatchable.

As an aside, it's interesting that each of these countries is home to one of my top 5 all time slicksters (Zapata for Panama and Lora for Colombia). I've seen 'em all: Whitaker, Pep, Benitez, Locche, Mayweather Jr., Kalambay, etc. None have impressed me more in this regard than those two.

Oh, and one more thing, some defensive highlights from both Zapata and Lora:

I guess I'll stick with the trend of taking over this thread with great videos. Here's the aforementioned Colombian Prudencio Cardona brutally taking out the Mexican Antonio Avelar in the first round. Avelar was not only a huge puncher himself, but renowned for his durability at the time. Murderous one-punch knockout:

I have; very efficient movement from him. I kind of felt bad for De Jesus in there at times. Pambe was very accurate with his right. I don't think he quite peaked at that time, technically I mean, but he was always efficient with his movement; his footwork and command of the center reminds me a bit of Joe Louis, actually.

:yep I hear he's doing quite well these days, actually. What a phenom.

By the way, do you know where I could find his victory over Zaragoza with watchable quality? BoxeoColombiano has one but its a recording of a tape on a television set voiced over by the guy filming it.

    Great post, thank you!
