    Unconventional Methods in the Corner.
I think it was a Greg Page fight but I'm not completely sure. Anyway around the mid rounds one the commentators talked about how back in the day when there was no enswell they would use a Silver Dollar Coin instead. "Just get it real cold and there you go"

    anyone else?

I have seen them using a coin before, that was probably a silver dollar. I think it was Tyson/Douglas where they wound up improvising a condom full of cold water, which is, unfortunately, also unconventional. I'd like to see it normalized. And de-stigmatized.

I'd just like to know why Snowell thought to bring condoms into the corner to begin with.

It's like that St. Louis Cardinals outfielder from way back in the day, Ducky Medwick.......in the '34 World Series he angered the rival Detroit Tigers fans to the point that they started throwing tomatoes and full heads of lettuce at him from the stands. The game had to be stopped momentarily while he was escorted off the field for his own safety.

He later replied, "I know why they threw those things, I just don't understand why they brought them to the park in the first place."

Snowell probably thought, you never know when you might get lucky....especially between rounds.

I once read that there was an old-time trainer's way of dealing with cuts. They would be chewing tobacco during the contest just in case a cut cropped up and if it did, they would take out the moist tobacco and mix it with metal shavings that they had prepared and insert that combination into the cut. Now why anyone would shove metal shavings in I can only hazard a guess that it somehow mixed with the tobacco to form a tight bond (just a guess). But in the article it also stated that when the fight was over, every bit of that concoction had to be cleaned from the wound before stitching, otherwise any metal shaving left behind was going to slice open the skin the next time he fought. Totally bizarre how anyone thought to come up with that combination to seal a cut.

Whenever I go somewhere where I can assume men are going to sweat and grapple with each other, and possibly bleed where they don't want to...I bring condoms. And I intend to use them one way or another. So, I get it. I never brought that kind of lettuce to the bathhouse though. Or metal shavings.

It works just fine. In the gym I have used a cigarette lighter and even the rounded edge of a vaseline jar.

I havent heard of the lighter method. Interesting. I have a stainless steel Zippo somewhere in my dresser.
Im going to put it in the freezer and see how cold it gets.

I wonder if it would be legal for the corner to use a stainless steel flask.
They can take a couple swigs in between rounds.

It doesn't need to be cold. There is a fluid build up under the skin, you are just pushing it out of the way.
