Honestly, I think boxing should cut out some weight classes a little bit like the UFC, maybe 9 weight classes would be good, and then we'd have more quality matches and fight. It's ridiculous when a fighter in a lower weight class is bigger than a fighter one weight class up on fight day.. just get rid of super- division

Too many classes, too many belts.

But they need those sanctioning fees, so unlikely to see much change there.

I think the advances in weight cutting make a return to the old 8 divisions - or something similar, a real stretch, unless same day weigh-ins are introduced.

IMO all the additional weight divisions are really doing is making it easier for fighters how can cut weight well to pick up belts in multiple divisions.

Could you imagine how stacked 160 would be without 154 and 168? or how stacked Light Heavy would be without 168 and Cruiser?

That said, I think cruiser is still needed - the gap between light heavy and heavy is just too much I think.

People who want 168 to be rid off wants to see more fights like Dick Tiger vs Foster... look at how many small middleweights who can't make 160lbs were undersized when they went to 175lbs.

Monzon would have moved to 168 had it existed... Greb's perfect weight would have been 168lbs.. that's why many people fought 10 round catchweight fights during the 50's/60's/70's.

    160 to 175lbs is a big jump.

Advances in nutrition and scientific training have solved that problem and small MW fighters don't have to go LHW.

Absolutely. Alone they'd be bad enough, but together the worst qualities are brought out. So many weights dilute the talent pools and coupled with so many belts we end up with an increased likelihood of paper champs. With all the belts and weight classes, it's currently possible for 70 men to be recognized as champion. Even now with several unified champions, there are still 48 guys holding belts with six more vacant ones to be filled soon, and that's not even counting the interim titleists. Crazy to think about. But hey, boxing orgs gonna boxing org, gotta get them sweet sanctioning fees ya know

If 160 to 175 is big jump what about 175 to
    200?

What classes would you get rid off?

I think some fixing is required around the 175
    to cruiser to heavyweight.

Big jumps there, and modern day heavies are significantly over the 200 pound threshold. We don't have many 210-220 pound heavies nowadays like back in the day.

And a lot of cruisers have big frames now that boil down to 200, walk around in the 220-230s.

Same with 175, a lot of 200 pound plus natural weight guys.

I'd get rid of all the Super-named weight classes, and I'd keep the Cruiserweight division but close the gap with LHW.

105 there are some guys who are just that small and it´s OK because some of them are really talented, but the jump to 112 would be huge.

I do believe the space between light-heavyweight and heavyweight needs some adjusting as modern heavyweights are just absolute giants.
11 weight classes and we would have so much more compelling matchmaking.
Right now the "super" and "junior" divisions are diluting talent pools in several divisions.

Modern weight cutting problem solved. Nobody fights in their natural weight class anymore

The problem is make the weight classes real. You should be fighting at your natural weight. You should be classified in the weight class you're fighting in on fight night because the current weigh ins are a scam. It also is healthier than cutting weight or rehydating b.s

Less divisions, one world championship + regional championships & same day weigh-ins would improve the sport by a lot.
