fury was never in shape.. i understand very well that he is endomorph by nature and has a slow metabolism that makes him accumulate fat... but he does not have a balanced diet... he does not measure the calories he eats.. if he did it with high level sport that makes him burn large amounts of calories he should stay thin and without any fat on top.. or with a low body fat percentage like 14%... because if he really weighed the food he eats.. if he really ate balanced and did not consume even a drop of liquor, saturated fats or sweets.. he should be fine.. I think that if this guy had taken things seriously with a low body fat percentage.. and lean muscle perhaps 4 or 5 kilos above his weight or perhaps 3.. he would have done excellent.. he would have a very good velocity and legacy.. that thing about the extra weight helping you hit harder seems like a story to me.. I think you hear more Strong, thin, with muscle and in excellent physical shape... you even absorb blows better than someone who is fat and heavy...

He did but he is bi-polar. He'd go from intense training one moment to intoxicated obesity the next.

Never in shape? Nonsense. Often too fat? Sure. But fitness? Ever seen a 270+lb guy with his gas tank? When he takes a fight seriously, he shows up extremely fit.

yes, he’s clearly got a genetic gift in terms of cardio, but even with that, he wouldn’t be able to be as active as he is for 12 rounds, at his big ass size, if he didn’t take his training very seriously.

you average dude with his bf% probably couldn’t run a mile. I’d put money on Fury being able to trot out a marathon without issue. Could probably roll out of bed hungover and covered in fried food grease then crank out an easy 18min 5k time.

You said yourself. His cardio is a genetic gift. Fury didn't maximize his talent.

He didn't maximize his ability, that's true. But very few of these people do. The list of lazy/indulgent/degenerate boxers is endless. Look at someone like Hatton. It's really not much different.

People like Usyk are definitely not normal for the sport.

And most don't train anywhere near as hard as they pretend, including the 'body builders'. Just because they stay lean doesn't mean they don't take shortcuts.

But Fury took it pretty seriously for a boxer. He started boxing as a teen and did it as his sole 'occupation' for basically 20 years, so that's a pretty serious investment. During certain periods he definitely trained hard. In other periods he was a circus fat man.

I think he definitely could have been better with more discipline but that wasn't in his character. And when you see all the fat HW's out there, he's not that unusual and clearly trains harder than plenty of them like (Ruiz/Millar/Fat Pole obviously, Chisora, Whyte, Parker, Zhang and many more).

He did the best that he was ever going to do. Anything else is pure speculation.

Being blessed with great cardio doesn't mean that any further effort on his part in terms of conditioning would greatly enhance his natural advantage in that regard. And besides, Fury was also prone to talking down his actual prep at times. He didn't do same on the occasion of the first Usyk fight, rather, he claimed an excellent camp and it showed in terms of a sheer physical appearance and performance.

Also, Fury got back up from that Wilder KD. How many wouldn't have? Don't discount displays of heart - that's taking it very seriously and part of the whole package also.

Yeah, he didn't take the sport seriously, that's why he's no ATG. Not even close.

Fury took it very serious, ask people who have seen him training…he trains hard!

There’s not many in boxing who do as much cardio as him, and it’s visible with his stamina.

don’t believe everything he says or the impression he gives. I know people who have trained/sparred with him and he takes it very seriously.

don’t disrespect the man and call him lazy, he’s tried his best and had a good career. Look how much weight he lost, you don’t think that takes dedication and discipline?

Can't speak much for his later career, but pre wlad he was known to be downing pints weeks out from fights

Yes he may have trained extremely hard, but getting sloshed on a Saturday Can't be beneficial

Didn't he say he was drinking a day before the first Wilder fight?

It does. But balooning up in weight between fights shows lack thereof.
