Is this even reasonable? What kind of damage would the rain cause? Once waterlogged, how long before it dries? Are any bag stands rust proof? Thanks.
Yes, with a quality stand and if you take the bag down and bring it inside when you're not using it. To the stand? Not much. If it's made well rain shouldn't be a problem. To the bag? Devastating. Mould. Mildew. Depending on what it's made of and what it's filled with, it'll start to stink fairly quickly, and eventually start to rot. It's bad enough getting sweat on them, but if it gets soaked in the rain, that's pretty much the end of it. Don't leave your bag out in the rain. It wont. If it's under an open cover (like a patio) and it gets a little spray on it from the rain then it'd probably be fine (I'd still be inclined to cover it with a tarp or something when not in use). If it's out in the open rain and gets soaked through it's ****ed. Yep. They might cost you a bit, but you should be able to get one that's powder coated or painted or whatever.
i put a boxing bag wall bracket on the outside of my house and use a canvas heavy bag its only 75 lb not 100lb so i take it down after each use not had any problems with it
Outside bags are a bad idea. Primate summed it up great with the mold, etc... Where I grew up, I had a bag hanging from a tree in the back yard, and lucky it wasn't stolen... It got waterlogged and then froze one night in the winter months and I, like a total dumbass, went out and, without thinking at all, punched it and broke my right hand... This was before I actually started boxing and I was young. I was a very stupid boy...
Damn, I didn't even think about winters where it gets cold enough to freeze things. Don't leave your bag outside
What about the "hydro" bags? They are basically rubber water bags. As long as it is out of the sun it should be OK right?
