What do you regard as superior damage to give someone a big cut or a black eye?

It depends on the situation. A referee may sotp a fight due to swelling of a black eye because the fighter cannot defend himself and a fight may be stopped due to a cut because it could harm the fighters career if it gets worse in the next few rounds, even though the fighter may still be able to fight.

I'd rather have a black eye, cuts can be damaging later on in your career, aswell as in the specific fight it happened.

Definitely cuts. Very seldom do you see a fight stopped by a black eye unless the swelling is horrendous. If the swelling gets to the point the fight has to be stopped, chances are, something is broken similar to Margarito's orbital bone in the Pacquaio fight.

Black eyes won't come back to haunt you in future fights like cuts can. Seems once the scar tissue gets healed, it is easier to open a cut in the same place.

id rather have a massive swollen black eye than cuts, they can get deep and will **** you up for future bouts.
