He has trained a few guys since Tyson just none of them panned out. A lot of it has to do with his association with D'Amato who was essentially blackballed by the sport for the way he fought against the Mob. Rooney has also battled Alcohol and had several DUI's and was thought to be not reliable.

Tyson was D'Amato's 'revenge' on the Boxing World a few Boxing books speak of this as D'Amato had been searching for a Heavyweight to train for years before he found Tyson who he could mold into an indestructible fighter that he could unleash and become Champion.

Back before Tyson he was offered and wanted to manage/train Gerry Cooney when he turned Pro but the 'Wacko Twins' wouldn't go for that as they wanted a trainer only because they were going to be the managers. So, D'Amato recommended Victor Valle for Cooney.

No he was not a great trainer. Anyone couldve been in tysons corner back then and Teddy did the ground work anyway and made champions afterwards .

Today Kevin Rooney is drunk as usual .

He hit the bottle quite enthusiatically for a few years, did he not?

Rooney's no HOF trainer. He was in the right place at the right time with the right fighter.Even being hired by Mormeck was viewed with derision as a desperate move by Mormeck because he could settle on or pay an top name.

It's a real bummer to speak of Rooney this way, but seriously, he just kinda floated around after Tyson.

He had Vinny Pazienza for years and helped him win the 154 WBA title.

He should not have been training Mike. He was not good enough. Mike did him a favor by letting him train him. However,I think he did well with Mike and knew the style.
