Why is PPV in the USA so more expensive than in the UK

In the UK we have had PPV since 96 - Bruno v Tyson £9.95, since then it drifted upto £14.95, but there are only around 3-4 PPV shows per year.

We had PPV in Soccer £8 per match, but most purchased a TV season ticket. It did not catch on and another TV channel now covers as part of the normal subscription fee.

There was a PPV Darts match a few years back, WWE Wrestling has PPV shows fairly regular.

However PPV is not popular with the average Brit and I doubt whether American fees would catch many viewers

Why do you tolerate it? If you voted in mass on Forums like this and boycotted such events and the Sport may then return to terrestorial TV and become mainstream again

    a few reasons

    1) The US Doller is generally around 75% on the pound. so £15.00 is more like £25.00

    2) The US has had a PPV culture since the 80s where as in the UK its only come about since the late 90s

    3) The US have always have subcriptions based channels, they dont pay a tv license like we do

    4) In the UK PPV Boxing/Wreslting is live at 1am, in the US its prime time, so people are prepared to pay more

    5) American go out less in the evenings that people inthe UK, so on a saturday night Americans wont be at the pub they will be in watching TV.

we've also had ppv around for a long time, even before cable television... in the 70s, i remember all the big heavyweight fights had closed circuit tv viewings which meant you had to pay dough to go into a movie theater or whatever and watch the fight live... then it would be re-broadcast on network tv on tape delay... i think a lot of the older fans after getting used to that, well, not having to leave the house, just sitting at home and getting the fight on your own tv... well, that must've seemed great and well worth the price

About 2/3 years ago Sky sports tried to move a majority of their live football coverage to PPV. But they soon figured out that nobody was paying for it so they abandoned the project.

They moved pretty much all the live games to that channel.
They were taking the **** by asking people to pay for games such as watford vs sheffield utd.

because as much as we ***** about it...people like me will still buy the fights so promoters don't have much motivation to change. their pockets are getting lined. its bull**** but what can you do?

It was Phil Taylor v David Fordham. Phil Taylor is the best Darts player in the history of the sport, but he plays in the PDC and is a 13 time world champion. David Fordham was the champion of the rival BDO.

This probably the only darts tournament where an opponent was taken away in an ambulance. David Fordham, massively over weight, become ill and the match was abandoned. My father-in-law poud out a tenner
